I love cupcakes. To quote the poet 50 Cent, I love cupcakes like a fat kid loves cake… wait what? Same difference? Cupcakes are just cake? Nope! Cupcakes are perfect in size and frosting to cake ratio, IMHO. They’re compact size allows for easy travel, and they’re adorable to boot. I can proselytize more on this topic at a later time, if you’d like, but that’s for another post. Anywho…
My love of cupcakes is well known to those who know me, especially those who love me. During my pregnancy with my daughter Talia, my husband started calling her Cupcake #3. He explained I was his Cupcake #1, and Lucas was his cupcake #2. During my pregnancy with Lucas, I called him “Tiny Human” (until I knew he was a boy), so I figured Cupcake #3 was a better nickname for an unknown child in utero.
I couldn’t come up with a name for Talia. Naming Lucas was easy peasy. I had always loved the name Lucas, and when I told David, years before we were even married, he loved the name too. We both agreed if we had a son, he’d be named Lucas. Once Lucas’s name was chosen, I knew I wanted his middle name to be Samuel, after my brother, so his name was set.
But my second baby, my little girl, was a tough cookie to name. When I was pregnant with Lucas, David and I liked the name Natalia, for multiple reasons. One of which was it ends in l-i-a. David’s mom, Amelia, and his sister Analia, both have names ending in lia, Analia even goes by Lia to friends and family.
But upon seeing our names listed, I realized Briza, David and Lucas all were 5-letter names. As I was pregnant, and my hormones out of control, I decided then and there that any future child, in this case, Cupcake #3 had to have a 5-letter name too, because, again, hormones.
Then, as any hormone crazy person would do, I googled 5-letter names and made lists of boy and girl names I liked and saved it for future use. One of the names on the list was Talia, another was Aliza.
Fast forward to the day we found out Cupcake #3 was a girl (which is a fun story for another day) I produced the list for David and told him he could narrow it down. I should also tell you that I wanted to name her Briza. Long story short, David shot that down. ::sad face::
Eventually we narrowed it down to Talia (after David’s sister L-I-A) Aliza (After me I-Z-A). But it wasn’t until I saw her, that I knew she was, Talia Aliza.
So, anyway, this post has become a very long explanation of my kid’s name choices, so thanks for hanging in here. ::high five::
BUT the reason for Mother of Cupcakes, is also an homage to Daenerys Stormborn, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, The Unburnt, Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and of the First Men, Queen of Meereen, Breaker of Chains, Mother of Dragons.
During my pregnancy with Talia I was rear ended on the freeway and it put me into prodromal labor (extended pre-term labor) that lead to bed rest for six weeks, (I’ll post about that another time). I ended up binge watching Game of Thrones and of course found myself rooting for Dany.
And that’s how I became Briza Winterborn, Khaleesi of the Small Grass Yard, The Unburnt Baker, Queen of the Pinterest Craft, the Pinterest Fail, and of the First Attempt, Breaker of Rules, Mother of Cupcakes.
